The Wire
Very nice to have some vinyl by the great UK sound collagist Andrew Liles. The Gazogene Machines has four tracks that mix Liles’s trademarked drone ominisims with a variety of other sonic events. A listener can seem to pick our a balafon at one moment, a carousel twinkler at another, some bad, bad children, a pair of crows juggling walnuts and then a guy having trouble getting his paritcle generator started on a particulary cold morning. The peices are splendid in terms of both width and depth, which is especailly cool given how many people seem to be chasing naught-but-stasis in this particular sonic arena. Bryon Coley
