Originally from Birmingham, now living in London, Lee started Djing on pirate radio stations and spent his teenage years in the midst of the emerging Jungle scene. However, his own approach to music has taken a more experimental route. Since the early 2000s Lee has been creating an abstract and sculptural form of computer music.
1.) WHICH RECORD HAS HAD THE MOST PROFOUND INFLUENCE ON YOU?
There could be a few answers, but honestly, the first record that came into my head is ‘A Guy Called Gerald – Black Secret Technology’.
For me it’s a record that is in some hyperreal way ‘about itself’ – It has this incredible quality of being akin to a hallucinated version of Jungle rather than Jungle in the genre specific sense.
2.) HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU SPEND A WEEK RECORDING/PLAYING/CREATING?
I feel really guilty if I’m not doing something, either kinda research or actually making stuff. So, most of my time to be honest.
I feel this ticking of time and I’m aware that things take a while for me to formulate and actually finish, so time away from any part of this process can feel uncomfortable.
3.) WHICH OF YOUR OWN CREATIONS IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
Dunno, I’m always excited about the next thing. The historic stuff is moved out of earshot to a certain degree.
4.) WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST REGRET?
Never thought about it… erm, no, I can’t!
5.) WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
I love to aimlessly walk around cities on my own. If I have time to kill in a city, the ‘flâneur’ in me comes out.
6.) OTHER THAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHERISHED POSSESSION?
My music and book collection.
7.) TELL ME THREE OF YOUR HEROES/HEROINES?
My Mom, my Nan, my Aunt.
8.) WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?
I really want to go to The Arctic…
9.) IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE YOUR ART WHAT OCCUPATION DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE DOING?
I’m really sure I’m not smart enough, but hypothetically, something in psychiatry, psychology or space exploration, something socially useful.
10.) IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU HAVE NEVER CONVEYED IN AN INTERVIEW BEFORE WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
In my life I never thought I’d end up conveying so much about myself in general to people I don’t know.
