Vladimir Ivkovic was born and raised in Belgrade. He first dabbled in DJing as a teenager in the mid ’80s, but it was only after leaving Yugoslavia (to study in Germany) and later coming back for a summertime visit, that he truly immersed himself in the craft, taking up position behind the decks during a series of impromptu parties at a lakeside restaurant owned by his parents.
He found his musical and spiritual home at Salon des Amateurs, an unassuming spot in Düsseldorf that’s gradually proven to be wildly influential.
In recent years he has found a devoted global following and has become a staple of the European club circuit.
1.) WHICH RECORD HAS HAD THE MOST PROFOUND INFLUENCE ON YOU?
There isn’t one and there are several for different reasons. One that I think of now is The League Unlimited Orchestra – Love And Dancing. I was quite young and already familiar with The Human League, especially with “Dare” that felt omnipresent. Then a dear family friend, in whose discotheque I dared to play my first record, played me “Love And Dancing”. I became obsessed with its familiar unfamiliarity, especially with the version of “Things That Dreams Are Made Of”. But I was also 9…. I still have that record with me with a dedication dated 29.11.1982.

2.) HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU SPEND A WEEK RECORDING/PLAYING/CREATING?
It never occurred to me that separation between all of it is possible. My friend Sean once said “research and development”. It happens all the time.
3.) WHICH OF YOUR OWN CREATIONS IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
Gospels for Moopie. A spontaneous middle of the night one-take recording that got preserved by Moopie on his Fleetway Tapes label. There is also Rex Ilusivii “In The Moon Cage”, essential listening and creation of Offen Music.
4.) WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST REGRET?
I try not to regret and imagine that my intentions are good and regret-like feelings are side effects of life and a way to improvement and betterment. But then “Der Weg zur Höllen sey mit lauter gutem Vorsatz gepflastert.” Let’s get out of here.
5.) WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
I practice experimental meditation, I assume, and I am looking for closeness of my family and the sound of the intro for Last Fortress: Underground.
6.) OTHER THAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHERISHED POSSESSION?
My hedgehog house.

7.) TELL ME THREE OF YOUR HEROES/HEROINES?
The one who manages to cope and remain in light far away from cynicism. The second one and the third one. And my family.
8.) WHERE IS YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE IN THE WORLD?
Dizdare Tower in Belgrade, in 1987. Eternal.
9.) IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE YOUR ART WHAT OCCUPATION DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE DOING?
I would spend more time with people I love. Is that an occupation?!
10.) IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU HAVE NEVER CONVEYED IN AN INTERVIEW BEFORE WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
No… I don’t feel the need to add more to the overall noise without being asked.
