ANVÅR is Ivar Bjørnson and Andrew Liles with guest Mélanie Duperrex.

Ivar needs no introduction, as a luminary in underground Metal, he has been creating innovative music for over 30 years with his ground-breaking band Enslaved.

ANVÅR was hatched in 2021, amid the chaos of the Covid pandemic. One of the few positives of those years was that it afforded some artists time and space in which to investigate channels they may not have previously considered.

After some idle chit-chat, Ivar and Andrew discovered they were both owners and fans of vintage Roland synths.

So a plan was made to create an album in homage to those synths, a very analogue recording with strict guidelines.

The concept was to ONLY use the Roland keyboards, nothing else, no extra instrumentation, just the Roland synths. All songs could be no longer than ten minutes ten seconds and only minimal post production and effects were allowed. The words, eloquently narrated by Melanie Duperrex, are, in part, taken from Roland manuals.

In an era when musicians have endless choices at their fingertips and VST plugins can emulate practically any instrument with incredibly convincing accuracy, Andrew and Ivar wanted to go back in time and create a recording of authentic analogue integrity. Hailemal is the result.
