Zenerphobia is a concept album and is based loosely on the idea of an imaginary horror/sci-fi film.

The concept is centred around an international team of scientists researching ESP and telekinesis. Their experiments are conducted on children who have the ‘gift’.

In short, it’s a half realised movie, a film I would like to see, maybe an overlooked classic from the early 80’s or the late 70’s. It only exists in my head but has managed to find life in this imaginary soundtrack.

I’ve not considered a cohesive storyline, but only the visual and aural aesthetics. Sterile tiled rooms in a medical environment, Cold War laboratories hidden in secret locations, diodes and strange machines with wires attached to the heads of the paranormally gifted children, children who can telepathically speak to their international counterparts.

Due to the continual tests using Zener cards, they have become Zenerphobic and plan to revolt. The children will mete vengeance on the cruel scientists who have made their lives miserable.

The dialogue for my imaginary movie appears in various languages interspersed throughout the recording. The voices are meant to represent the international scientists studying the children. They are relaying their observations and results via a secret radio channel and on cassette tape.

In between the dialogue are various 80’s orientated ‘Dream Pop’ and ‘Ethereal Wave’ guitar based songs.
