Baby Dee is an American performance artist, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who currently resides in Holland.
Baby Dee began her musical career as a street performer but soon decided to take work as an organist at a Catholic church in the Bronx. She also became known for a street act in which she played harp atop a high-rise tricycle in Manhattan.
She appears on the Liles album COVER GIRLS.
1.) WHICH RECORD HAS HAD THE MOST PROFOUND INFLUENCE ON YOU?
The Polka Dot Polka – this was a 45 with a yellow label that said “Polka Dot Polka” that I loved to lean over and watch go round. I would play it over and over and over and watch it go round and watch it go round until somebody would unplug it. I don’t think I ever willingly stopped listening and watching that beautiful yellow label go round.
2.) HOW MANY HOURS DO YOU SPEND A WEEK RECORDING/PLAYING/CREATING?
That depends on the week. Most weeks I do next to nothing. Sometimes I feel bad about that but mostly I’m content to do nothing. Something is very over-rated. As a matter of fact, something is the most over-rated thing that ever existed.
3.) WHICH OF YOUR OWN CREATIONS IS YOUR FAVOURITE?
My most recent, of course! It’s called I AM A STICK.
4.) WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST REGRET?
I regret never having been able to land my very own blimp in Central Park.
5.) WHAT DO YOU DO TO RELAX?
I like to drink.
6.) OTHER THAN FRIENDS AND FAMILY WHAT IS YOUR MOST CHERISHED POSSESSION?
My Hamburg Steinway grand piano.

9.) IF YOU DIDN’T HAVE YOUR ART WHAT OCCUPATION DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD BE DOING?
Ventriloquism (or maybe taxidermy) I like the way they look in print. I can picture a very nice old fashioned business card that says “Baby Dee, taxidermist” or “Baby Dee, ventriloquist” I could hand them out at parties and give people knowing little winks and point at them with both hands like a Las Vegas lounge singer.
10.) IF THERE IS ONE THING THAT YOU WOULD WANT THE WORLD TO KNOW ABOUT YOU THAT YOU HAVE NEVER CONVEYED IN AN INTERVIEW BEFORE WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
All my clothes are made for me by hand by the label “Mrs Foxy” and I am Mrs Foxy’s only client.
